July 19 - A Special Night
We’ve had a great start to our Thursday Nights at the Bandstand’s 10th season of live music community based program. It’s been a busy first 5 weeks and I am just now catching up with some communication. See weekly Blogs below. My apologies for the tardiness.
Thanks to all our artists, sponsors, supporters and fans for being a huge part of the success of our program. Closing Fred Varley Drive around the Bandstand from 7 to after each performance has worked out really well providing additional audience space and safety. Adding security presence has provided immense help with crowd control at our small venue attracting growing audiences each week.
A big shout out to Celebrate Markham for additional financial support this year providing additional funding for the cost of weekly security. Outstanding sound and lighting provided by Chris MacBride Productions and RP Dynamics delivers quality production each week. The support of the UBIA and merchants on Main Street for the program is a special relationship that makes the program better and better every year. And Grethe and Mabel from the Village Grocer, the artist and volunteers just can’t get enough of those pre-concert sandwiches!!!! And the volunteers who just show up early and stay late to pitch in and tear down each week really demonstrates just how much this is a community based program. Much thanks goes to each and every one of them. And to our Unionville Presents team...Dave, Gary, Rob, Jim, Christie and Chris from Kelowna....many thanks to each of you for your participation in the success of our program.
Be sure to check out pics from each evening’s performance posted on our website at www.unionvillepresents.com . Be sure to put every Thursday night on your calendar for an outstanding night of music and a great trip to our unique Village of Unionville, the Jewel of Markham. 7:30 – 9:00pm every Thursday night June through August at the Millennium Bandstand at the corner of Fred Varley and Main in Unionville!!!!
This Thursday night, July 19 is a special night. The Forrestall Group’s Catech Systems and PeopleToGo present Elton Rohn and his magnificent tribute to Elton John. Thursday night is also David Conforti Night, an evening dedicated to the life of David Conforti on a night that David’s favorite artist performs.
David was autistic. David was a huge fan of Thursday Nights at the Bandstand. Music was special to David in a short life where Every Moment Mattered , a life rich with accomplishments before his passing last August. For this, our 10th season, we partnered with Autism Ontario – York Region as our awareness partner dedicating the season to David.
To recognize the importance that volunteering had on David and to encourage and recognize volunteerism with community impact among other people with Autism, the Conforti family together with Autism Ontario – York Region created the David Conforti – Reach For the Stars Award as a lasting tribute in memory of David’s life. The inaugural Reach For the Stars Award will be presented by Mayor Scarpitti prior to Elton Rohn’s performance this Thursday evening.
The Award presentation will commence at 7:10pm concluding with Elton’s solo performance of the ballad Skyline Pigeon. We hope you can join us for a memorable evening and welcome you spreading the word further for us.
